RALPH CARR: Coach, suuuper genius, and so much more!
Ralph didn't know what he was getting into when he answered my singles ad in October 1998! Temporarily blinded for 10 days in an explosion when he was 20, he is compassionate to my special needs, always trying to see things my way. He's been my coach, my trainer, my boot shine boy and maid (ironing my show clothes), my tack repairman and tailor (stitching up worn out tail bags), my groom and braider, my farrier, my chauffeur, and my cheering section. Whew - it makes me tired just to list all the things he does for me. No wonder he's always glad to go to his day job - to get some rest!
Talk about someone who can do it all: Ralph is the man. He's a super handyman (built our dressage arena and designed my electronic letter-announcing system), computer whiz (this web site is his creation), former professional photographer, effective horseman; and he speaks five languages. The Spanish really comes in handy when trying to communicate to the stable help that you'd like your horse to get an extra flake of sacate. And he epitomizes the notion that REAL men are not too proud to wear boots and breeches!
Ralph adopted his cute little Kiger Mustang Bucky as a yearling in 1988 and taught him to do all kinds of tricks: lie down, sit up, push a barrel, rear up and put his front feet on a platform, high fall into water, and run through a burning wall - which Bucky demonstrated as a stunt horse in "The Adventures of the Zordine Warriors." Ralph has also done competitive trail riding and team penning with his versatile little gelding.
Ralph retiled our bathrooms, extended the back patio, installed a drip system for the plants, and constructed from scratch a double desk/entertainment wall unit for our office with southwest detailing: conchos strung with leather and beads and stenciled-on cow skulls with rhinestone eyes. He trims my bangs and applies my eye makeup when we go out, he cleans up my cat's partially eaten crickets, he vacuums and does laundry and even does windows, and he is a fabulous cook. And, best of all, he makes me laugh. Wow, all this from a personals ad!
